Google Will Regulate Traffic Lights In Athens

Apr 01, 2024

The agreement between the Region of Attica and Google is final and expected to solve the traffic problem. According to the Road Safety Advisor of the Attica Region, Kimonas Logothetis, the agreement concerns the connection of traffic lights on the streets with the Google system.

Specifically, Google will take over the management of the lighting time of the traffic lights, i.e. how long the red phase will last and how long the green phase will last, depending on the traffic on each road.

Logothetis explained that the agreement is based on data collection and exchange. In particular, the American technology company will receive information from satellites and mobile telephony about the movement of vehicles and use it to adjust escape times at traffic lights.

Essentially, that is, it aims at their more efficient operation, with the catalytic assistance of digital technology.

It should be noted that the agreement was finalized at the beginning of the week and in the next period of time there will be further information on when it will come into force.

Certainly, it comes at a time when the traffic issue is - more than any other time - a big headache for drivers.

The correct management of the traffic lights, with reliable information and in real time, can give breath.
